“Home is where we can laugh and cry, embrace and dance, sleep long and dream quietly; eat, read, play, watch the fire, listen to music, and be with a friend. Home is where we can rest and be healed.” Henri Nouwen
Our assistants come from all over the United States and from all over the world, and many of the assistants extend their one year commitment of service. The assistants receive a small stipend and room and board in exchange for their services. We also receive much support and fellowship from associate members, volunteers from schools and colleges in the greater Seattle area. We are grateful to the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and the Lutheran Volunteer Corps and the Californian Jesuit Province and the Denver Archdiocese for their support over many years.
People with a developmental disability (core members) and their care givers (assistants) live together in our three homes. Generally speaking our core members are referred to us through the Division of Developmental Disabilities, D.S.H.S., and are residents of Washington State.
Our homes, Angeline, Noah and Shuinota are within walking distance of one another and close to a business / commercial area, (including grocery stores, restaurants, a drug store, and some small shops). Public transportation is also within a block of each house. Downtown Seattle is only ten minutes away by bus.
