As a board member and now Community Leader, I have witnessed how much life in community is an experience of growth for Core Members, Assistants, Volunteers and Board Members. So many more people enter the circle of L’Arche community every day and are changed–health care workers, co-workers of Core Members, bus drivers, neighbors, business owners on 15th Avenue East, and beyond!

Stories of Impact
L’Arche is no different from the rest of the world in terms of the business of daily life. However, what I love about L’Arche is that, amidst this business, there is a very intentional and collective practice of doing “with” rather than “for” one another. Whether it’s peeling an orange, making breakfast, or taking walks together, the Core Members and Assistants at L’Arche invite me to savor the ordinary moments, slow down, and be.

A frequent refrain I have heard from my sister since she became part of the L’Arche Noah Sealth community has been, “I love my new life.” What a sense of relief it is to know your sister is happy and content and so well supported and loved.
I am filled with gratitude for everyone at L’Arche, for creating a sense of family and community, making it possible for my sister and other Core Members to have rich and fulfilling lives.

L’Arche in the United States
In 79 L’Arche homes across the U.S., 287 People with IDD receive nearly 150,000 hours of residential services and participate in over 2,000 community building events.
However, the impact of L’Arche goes far beyond our numbers. Each day, people with and without intellectual disabilities develop extraordinary friendships through ordinary life. These friendships become catalysts for change. We hope you will become part of the movement!
